with Structural Colour Dials
to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the First CITIZEN Watch
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the first CITIZEN-branded watch, CITIZEN is releasing a new themed collection - LAYERS of TIME - featuring structural colour dials*1 inspired by the geological layers of rock and minerals that shaped our planet over millions of years. Five new limited-edition models will be released from the collection.

LAYERS of TIME Limited-Edition Models
The new LAYERS of TIME themed collection is being released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first CITIZEN-branded watch, drawing a parallel between the creation of CITIZEN’s watchmaking history over the last century and the formation of the geological layers of rock and minerals that shaped our planet over millions of years. All models in the collection feature structural colour dials to express the enduring beauty created by nature.
All models are equipped with CITIZEN’s proprietary light-powered Eco-Drive*2 technology. The dials are made from 100% recycled polycarbonate printed with structural colour ink developed by FUJIFILM Corporation. This innovative technology produces a captivating glitter and sheen on the dial, creating a sense of depth inspired by countless layers of rocks and minerals formed over millennia. The pigment-free ink utilizes light reflecting off the surface of the microstructures in the ink to create a range of hues and tones. These unique dials were made possible thanks to Eco-Drive technology that utilizes light as a form of clean energy to measure the passage of time. Each of the four men’s models has unique finishing on the bezel and dial inspired by different geological layers and minerals in the Earth’s crust. In contrast, the lady’s model features diamonds that give an elegant sparkle to the dial.

- *1 Structural colour dial: A dial printed with pigment-free ink that produces colours by using light reflecting off the surface of the microstructures in the ink layer.
- *2 Eco-Drive is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology that powers watches using any natural or artificial light source, eliminating the need to replace batteries. A first within the watch industry, Eco-Drive was certified as an Eco Mark product by the Japan Environment Association (JEA) and recognized for its contribution to environmental sustainability.
- *3 GPS satellite-synchronized watch captures the date and time signals sent by GPS satellites from space — orbiting 20,000 kilometers above the Earth — bringing ultra-precise timekeeping to wherever people are on the face of the globe.
- *4 Radio-controlled watches receive signals from radio transmitters to correct the time and calendar automatically.
- *5 Super Titanium™ is CITIZEN’s proprietary technology to treat solid titanium with surface hardening technology. It is at least 5 times harder than stainless steel, resistant to scratches, lightweight and gentle to the skin for comfortable wearing.
- *6 Duratect is CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology that enhances the surface hardness of metals such as stainless steel and titanium, protecting watch bodies from scratches and damage. This technology offers excellent abrasion quality and maintains the luster of metals for long periods of time. Duratect DLC achieves Vickers hardness of 1,000-1,400 by creating an amorphous carbon hard film—mainly composed of carbon and hydrogen—on the surface of the material (Vickers hardness of stainless steel is approx. 200 HV).
- *7 Perpetual calendar is a fully automatic calendar control function that automatically adjusts the end of each month, including the months of a leap year, until February 28, 2100.
