Publishing the product’s carbon footprint
The trade-off for our comfortable, convenient existence
is that average temperatures are rising and
abnormal weather events occurring worldwide.
One of the factors driving this is the increase
in greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide.
CITIZEN L was trying to make watches that were as beautiful inside as out
even before terms like “sustainable” and “ethical” were in wide use.
We express the greenhouse gas emissions for our watches’ whole product life cycle,
from materials sourcing to production, disposal and recycling,
as CO2 emissions, and publish them in an easy-to-understand format.
We’re also the first watchmaker to have won third-party certification.*
We were trying to do something no one had done before, so it wasn’t easy.
It was a unique, department-spanning effort, but we never lost our passion.
Although it was time-consuming, we dealt with one challenge at a time.
Rather than give up, we advanced small step by small step.
It’s small actions like these that have the power to change the world.
